Optical Illusion IRL of the Day: At the Royal Horticultural Society’s Chelsea Flower Show, James Dyson, he of the Dual Cyclone bagless vacuum, installed this glorious, M.C. Escher-inspired water fountain dubbed “Wrong Garden,” which is designed to give the illusion of water traveling uphill.

Kevin: Imagine that I let you borrow $50, but in exchange for my generosity, you promise to pay me back the $50 with an extra $10 in interest. To make sure you pay me back, I take your Charizard Pokémon card as collateral …
Let’s say that the Charizard is worth $50, so in case you decide to not return my money, at least I’ll have something that’s worth what I loaned out.
But one day, people realize that Pokémon is stupid and everyone decides that the cards are overvalued. That’s right—everybody turned twelve on the same day! Now your Charizard is only worth, say, $25.
At the same time, you’re having trouble paying back the $60 you owe me. So what would you rather do: try and pay me back the $60 or just default and give me your $25 Charizard?
Olivia: I’d give you the Charizard.
Kevin: Exactly. Who wouldn’t? Now, the bank — I mean me — has lost $25 when I expected to make $10. What’s the lesson here?Olivia: Pokémon is dumb
Really, our economy would be in a much better state right now if financial institutions had traded in something more stable, like Meowth cards.
interesting
It’s Saturday morning and I am having breakfast with Hannah. As I sit there I notice how relaxed Hannah is, how in control she is, and with good reason too. Also how she tries to make eye contact most of the time, like those sharp hazel eyes of hers holds some secret…
This interview started off just like the one with John did with her telling me about the beginning. “I definitely started off earlier than John did,” she starts. “I would say that up until I was 5 or 6 years old I was perfecly normal. Then I noticed how everthing seemed to wrok out in my favor. Of course I didn’t think anything about, I was only 6 years old. As I grew up though I started wondering just by looking around me and wanting the situation would change it would. More specifically, if I looked at someone and “suggested” that they do something, they would do it. Not reluctantly, like someone was forcing them to, but they seemed genuinely happy to do that thing. Like there was nothing in the world that could make them happier.”
“Wouldnt it be a little difficult to live life out normally if everything is works out for you?” Stupid question I know, but I had to ask it, “I mean a lot of the lessons in life are learned because things just dont work out for you and you learn and grow from those situations.”
“Does it look like I lead a normal life? Anyway to answer your question, yes it does, which is why I spend most of my life not making suggestions to people. I really try to control the use of my powers, so I dont mess up the world too much. I mean come on, I’m trying to help the world, not hurt it.
“Most people say that whay I do is wrong, because I force people to do things agains their own will. To me, that is both true and not true. Of course to make someone do something without their consent is wrong, but The way I do it, it changes the way they see things so that they WANT to do something for me. Like I said, it coldn’t make them happier.
“Is wasnt until my junior year in High school that I really matured about the way I used my ability. That was also the year I met John and Trish. But that story is for another time. Now I have to go attend to other, greater things,” she finishes then gets up and walks out of the resarant without a backward glance.
I sit there and think about my interview with John yesterday and the one with Hannah just now and I get really excited for my next with Patricia on Monday…
To be continued…..
Ok, this is my first attempt at a running story here so just go with the flow. I just want you all to know that this is in no way serious. I am trying to make this the most rediculous story I can. Some posts may be longer than the others, it all depends on what happens to our team of three.
Chapter 1. “In the Beginning”
“In the beginning we were just three ordinary people,” John Noyes says to me during our lunch interview that first Friday. ” I didn’t even know Hannah or Trish. I was not until high school that the first signs appeared.”
In case you were wondering John is one of three wizzards in the world, all of whom act as a team who try their best to save every single person in the world. The other two wizzards are Hannah Wilson and Patricia (Trish) Zaph. They call themselves “Poyeson” as a play off of their names. Ever since they have been in high school they began to realize they had powers that they were able to control. Powers that no one could imagine.
“During freshman year,” John continued, “I noticed how I was able to absorb every bit of information I learned and never forget it. I was able to get 100 percent on every test I took. I did think it was a little strange, but my teachers just though I was cheating so I started getting a few problems wrong on purpose, just so I was able to drop the suspicion.
“As you could imagine when you are 15 years old and you realize that you have strange abilities you will want to keep it a secret so you will fit in more with the people around you. That can get pretty difficult when you beging predicting everything that is about to happen in your head, let me tell you. I am sure that I started acting pretty strange to my friends I had at the time. I was able to quote TV shows and movies flawlessly, just ending in annoyance from the people around me at the time. After this it pretty much just snowballed and pretty soon I would be able to get somewhere just by thinking about it.”
“Wait a second,” I interrupt. “Are you saying that you teleport telepathically?!”
“Uh, yeah that is what I am saying. Anyways,” slight annoyance showing in his face, fading with his next thought. “Sophomore year is where everything changed, that is when I met Hannah and Trish-” John suddenly gets a blank look on his face and says, “Oh, I am so sorry but something just came up, I will contact you about when I can chat next.”
“Wait-” but it was already too late, he dissappeared as he was standing up. I realize why so many people must be afraid of Poyeson, but I know that they are good people…er…wizards with good intentions. I absolutely could not wait until my lunch tomorrow with Hannah…
And now faithful readers, whoever you are, I leave you for the night to continue with chapter one tomorrow, possibly Saturday or Sunday, depending on my schedule.
Hope you enjoy it so far, and remember this is just for fun/my first attempt at a story, so dont be too critical.
Hopefully by tonight sometime I will begin a story that will be ongoing for who knows how long. The goal is to include as many people from the crew team as possible and have it make sense. Your job as readers is to remind me if you see me about continuing the story and possibly giving me ideas. Ring now I am having trouble coming up with a good story to write about.
